The 12 Holy Imams (a.s): Divine Successors

The concept of Imamate (divine leadership) is one of the pillars of the Shia faith. Shia Muslims believe that just as Allah appointed Prophets to guide humanity, He also appointed Imams to preserve and protect the final message of Islam.

The 12 Holy Imams (a.s) are the divinely chosen successors of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They were not chosen by people but were appointed by Allah Himself, announced by the Prophet, and confirmed by the preceding Imam.

"I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate. Whoever wants to enter the city must come through the gate."
— Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Mustadrak al-Hakim

What is an Imam?

An Imam in the Shia context is more than just a political leader. An Imam is a spiritual guide, a master of Quranic interpretation, and a perfect example of Islamic character. There must always be a "Hujjah" (Proof of Allah) present on earth to guide humanity.
