The Kalma (the Testimony of Faith) is the foundation upon which the life of a Muslim is built. In the Shia school of thought, this testimony includes three core pillars: Tawhid, Risalah, and Wilayah.
While all Muslims testify to the Oneness of Allah and the Prophethood of Muhammad (SAW), Shia Muslims emphasize the completion of this faith through the testimony of the Wilayah (Guardianship) of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS).
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلِيٌّ وَلِيُّ ٱللَّٰهِ وَصِيُّ رَسُولِ ٱللّٰهِ وَ خَلِيْفَتُہٗ بِلَا فَصْلٍ
La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah, Aliyyun Waliullah, Wasi-u-Rasulullah wa Khalifatuhu Bila Fasl.
"There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, Ali is the beloved of Allah, the successor of the Messenger of Allah and his immediate caliph."
Understanding the Four Pillars
La Ilaha Illallah
The absolute belief that there is no god but Allah. He is One, Indivisible, and has no partners. This is the root of all Islamic belief.
Muhammadur Rasulullah
The testimony that Muhammad (SAW) is the final Messenger of Allah. He brought the perfect law (Shariah) and is the role model for all humanity.
Aliyyun Waliullah
The testimony that Ali (AS) is the Wali (Guardian/Friend) of Allah. This acknowledges the divine leadership appointed by Allah and announced by the Prophet.
Wasi-u-Rasulullah
Testifying that Imam Ali (AS) is the immediate Caliph and successor of the Prophet, without any gap (Bila Fasl), as witnessed at Ghadir Khumm.
Why Wilayah is Essential
Shia Muslims believe that faith is incomplete without acknowledging the leadership that the Prophet (SAW) explicitly established. At Ghadir Khumm, the Prophet declared: "Of whomsoever I am the Master (Mawla), this Ali is his Master."
By reciting the "Aliyyun Waliullah", we reaffirm our commitment to the Ahlulbayt and the pure teachings they preserved after the Prophet.
